Run DMC: A Celebration of Hip Hop Legends and Limited-Edition

August 9th, (2002) officially proclaimed as Run DMC Day in New York City, marks a significant date for hip-hop enthusiasts and fans of the legendary group, Run DMC. This year, the celebration took an exciting turn with a pop-up experience at the Billionaire Boys Club flagship store in partnership with streetwear brand Terri Projects. The event offered fans access to 150 limited-edition tees and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels’ official DMC Cookies.

Pop-Up Experience

The Run DMC Day pop-up, produced in collaboration with Bravado, Universal Music, and the Billionaire Boys Club, attracted a diverse crowd of hip-hop lovers and fashion-forward individuals. Attendees enjoyed music from the founder of Terri Projects and Kid Laroi’s DJ, TJ Mizell, alongside internationally renowned DJ TGUT. The doors of the Billionaire Boys Club flagship store at 7 Mercer Street were open to the public on August 9th from noon until 7 pm.

The exclusive merchandise, available only during the pop-up event, proved to be a significant draw for fans and collectors alike. The limited-edition tees, designed in collaboration with Terri Projects, showcased the iconic Run DMC logo and classic imagery associated with the group. Additionally, DMC’s official cookies were a sweet treat for attendees, further enhancing the overall experience.

Run DMC’s Influence

Formed in 1983 by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell, Run DMC is widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in hip-hop history. As pioneers of the genre, they helped usher in the golden age of hip hop and paved the way for future generations of artists. Their unique style and emphasis on the MC and DJ relationship set them apart from their contemporaries, ultimately shaping the course of hip-hop culture.

Run DMC’s first album, “Run-D.M.C.” (1984), achieved Gold record status, making them the first hip-hop group to reach this milestone. Over the years, the group continued to create groundbreaking music, including their hit single, “Christmas in Hollis.” In a testament to their enduring popularity, Run DMC recently performed the classic song for the Disney Holiday Special after a nearly two-decade hiatus.

Run DMC Day 2022 provided an exciting opportunity for fans to celebrate the iconic group’s lasting legacy and impact on hip-hop culture. The pop-up experience at the Billionaire Boys Club flagship store, in collaboration with Terri Projects, showcased the enduring appeal of Run DMC through limited-edition merchandise and an unforgettable atmosphere. As we look forward to future Run DMC Day celebrations, it’s clear that the group’s influence will continue to inspire generations of hip-hop enthusiasts and artists alike.
