DRIFT

Scheduled for release on February 7, 2025, Heart Eyes is the latest film blending the thrills of a slasher with the lighthearted charm of a romantic comedy. Produced by Spyglass Media Group, the same team behind the recent Scream films, and directed by Josh Ruben, this unique horror-romcom hybrid promises a fresh take on the genre, arriving just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Plot Overview

Heart Eyes follows the story of the notorious Heart Eyes Killer, a masked villain who terrorizes couples on Valentine’s Day. The killer has been active for several years, striking fear into the hearts of lovers. However, this year’s target is different—two co-workers who are mistakenly believed to be a couple while working late on Valentine’s Day. As they try to survive the night, romance and terror collide in unexpected ways, blending suspense with comedic and romantic elements.

Cast and Characters

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including:

•Olivia Holt (Cruel Summer) as Ally, one of the unsuspecting targets of the killer.

•Mason Gooding (Scream, Love, Victor), playing her co-worker and potential love interest.

•Gigi Zumbado (Prom Pact) in a supporting role, adding comic relief and tension to the mix.

•Michaela Watkins (Casual) and Devon Sawa (Final Destination) add their horror-genre experience to the cast.

•Jordana Brewster, best known for her role in the Fast & Furious franchise, plays Shaw, a detective investigating the Heart Eyes Killer.

With Mason Gooding already known for his horror roles in Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), his involvement has excited fans who appreciate his familiarity with the genre.

Creative Team

Behind the scenes, Heart Eyes is in capable hands with director Josh Ruben, known for his work on horror-comedy films such as Werewolves Within and Scare Me. The screenplay is written by a talented trio—Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day), and Michael Kennedy (Freaky), all of whom have extensive experience blending horror and humor.

The film’s musical score, composed by Jay Wadley, will complement the film’s unique tonal balance, shifting between romance and horror.

Production and Release

Filming took place in Auckland, New Zealand, during June 2024, with the cast and crew working to create a visually captivating blend of romcom and slasher aesthetics. The movie will hit theaters across the U.S. on February 7, 2025, distributed by Sony Pictures, with Republic Pictures handling international releases.

With its blend of romance, comedy, and horror, Heart Eyes offers a unique twist on the classic Valentine’s Day movie. Whether you’re a fan of romcoms, slashers, or both, this film promises to deliver a thrilling and fun cinematic experience for all audiences.
