In a heartfelt tribute to military service members, Sneaker Politics and ASICS joined forces to create the GEL-LYTE III “Always Ready.” This flow not only showcases thoughtful design but also embodies a deep narrative rooted in gratitude and personal experience.

A Personal Journey Inspires Design

Derek Curry, founder of Sneaker Politics, enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1999 and was deployed to Iraq in 2003. His time in the military profoundly influenced his life and career. Reflecting on his service, Curry stated, “The Army played a major role in my life and I am thrilled to finally be bringing these two worlds together. Without it, there wouldn’t be a Sneaker Politics.”

The merge draws inspiration from Curry’s unit’s motto, “Toujours Prêt,” translating to “Always Ready.” This ethos is intricately woven into the sneaker’s design, symbolizing readiness and resilience.

Design Elements Reflecting Military Heritage

The GEL-LYTE III “Always Ready” features a predominantly army green colorway, reminiscent of military attire. Key design elements include:

• Material and Color: Olive green canvas base with tonal suede overlays, complemented by black ASICS Tiger Stripes, reflecting military gear aesthetics.
• Military-Inspired Details: Removable badges on the lateral ankle mimic name tapes found on uniforms, with “POLITICS” branding on the left shoe and “GEL-LYTE III” on the right.
• Patriotic Accents: Tear-away sections on the toe box reveal the American flag’s stars and stripes, symbolizing national pride.
• Additional Features: The medial toe cap is embroidered with Sneaker Politics’ opening date, and the split tongue showcases a Special Forces tag. Custom graphic insoles, a dog tag, and extra laces are included, all packaged in a specially designed box.

Release Details and Philanthropic Efforts

The “Always Ready” edition was released with the following schedule:

• May 27, 2022: Exclusive in-store access for veterans and active-duty military members at all Sneaker Politics locations.
• May 28, 2022: Public in-store release.
• May 30, 2022: Online release via Sneaker Politics’ website.

Priced at $150, a portion of the proceeds was donated to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Lone Survivor Foundation, organizations dedicated to supporting veterans and active-duty service members.
