DRIFT

The Kalmar 9×9 is a remarkable restomod that reimagines the Porsche 911, blending classic design with modern engineering to create a hypercar suitable for daily driving. Built upon the 993-generation 911, this vehicle pays homage to Porsche’s iconic 959 while incorporating elements from contemporary models like the Turbo and GT3 RS.

Design and Inspiration

Kalmar Automotive, a Danish company renowned for its bespoke Porsche builds, has crafted the 9×9 with a full carbon-fiber body weighing less than 220 pounds. This lightweight construction not only enhances performance but also reflects the aesthetic cues of the 959, seamlessly integrating modern styling elements from the latest 992 models. The result is a harmonious blend of classic and contemporary Porsche design.

Performance and Powertrain

Under the hood, the 9×9 is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine sourced from the current 911 Turbo. Kalmar has tuned this engine to produce an impressive 930 horsepower, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 2 seconds. Power is delivered to all four wheels through a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, ensuring rapid gear changes and optimal traction.

Chassis and Handling

The 9×9 features a custom double-wishbone pushrod front suspension designed by Danisi Engineering in Italy, coupled with adaptive dampers and optional rear-axle steering. This setup provides exceptional handling characteristics, allowing the car to perform adeptly on both road and track. The use of advanced materials, such as 3D-printed titanium brake calipers developed by CarboBrake, reduces unsprung mass and enhances braking performance.

Interior and Comfort

Inside, the 9×9 offers a minimalist yet functional environment. Personalized lightweight seats and a hidden roll cage contribute to both comfort and safety. While traditional navigation and stereo systems are absent, Bluetooth connectivity allows for modern device integration, catering to the needs of today’s drivers.

Variants and Customization

Kalmar offers the 9×9 in three distinct versions:

•9×9: The flagship model with 930 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and a seven-speed PDK transmission.

•9×9 Sport: A more driver-focused variant featuring a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 650 horsepower, available with a seven-speed manual transmission and variable all-wheel drive.

•9×9 Leichtbau (Lightweight): The purist’s choice, equipped with a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter engine from the 911 GT3, delivering a high-revving experience through a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive.

Each version is tailored to provide a unique driving experience, catering to diverse preferences among enthusiasts.

Production and Availability

Kalmar plans to produce only nine examples of each variant, making the 9×9 an exclusive offering. Pricing starts at approximately $2.1 million, reflecting the bespoke nature and advanced engineering of the vehicle.

The Kalmar 9×9 stands as a testament to the art of automotive restomod, merging the timeless appeal of the Porsche 911 with cutting-edge technology and design. Its combination of power, comfort, and everyday usability positions it as a hypercar that doesn’t compromise on practicality, offering enthusiasts a unique and exhilarating driving experience.
