DRIFT

SIDES CORE has redefined the traditional concept of a hair salon with its modern and minimalist design approach, perfectly exemplified in their remodeling of Cache Horie. Located in the Minami Horie district of Osaka, Japan, this project suhitectureccessfully integrates the original architectural elements with contemporary additions. It breathes new life into the space while preserving its historical roots, marking a seamless fusion of past and present.
Historical Background of Cache Horie
Before diving into the intricacies of the project, it’s essential to understand the historical context of Cache Horie. The salon occupies a former warehouse located in a historical area of Osaka that has retained its vibrant mix of old-world charm and modernity. This district is known for its distinctive architectural features, including old-style warehouses, which represent a crucial aspect of Osaka’s history and heritage.
SIDES CORE’s Design Concept and Approach
The primary objective for SIDES CORE in this project was to create a harmonious coexistence between the original architectural elements and modern design accents. The architectural and design team took a minimalist approach, paying meticulous attention to every detail while ensuring maximum functionality. To achieve this, they used abstracted elements and a specific color palette that contrasts with the existing structure, thus producing a unique three-dimensional visual composition.
Exterior Design
The building’s exterior exhibits a striking blend of industrial materials, such as concrete and metal, and contemporary elements like glass. SIDES CORE preserved the warehouse-style architecture of the original building, featuring exposed brick walls, high ceilings, and large windows. This combination creates an intriguing contrast between the warmth of the historical architecture and the sleekness of the modern design.
Interior Design
As soon as one enters the salon, the eyes are greeted by an expansive, high-ceilinged space filled with natural light. The floor plan remains open, with minimal partitions ensuring easy movement and interaction between stylists and customers. This open layout reinforces the idea of a harmonious and vibrant community within the salon.
The minimalist theme continues throughout the interior, with the primary focus on clean lines and geometric shapes. Abstracted elements, such as metal grille partitions and sculptural lighting fixtures, add depth and visual interest without overwhelming the space. Monochrome colors dominate the palette, with splashes of vibrant blue and gold that serve as a bold and dynamic contrast to the muted tones.
Additionally, cleverly incorporated mirrors reflect light and create the illusion of a more expansive and airy space. This attention to detail not only results in an aesthetically pleasing environment but also a highly functional one.
Impression
SIDES CORE’s reinterpretation of Cache Horie’s warehouse architecture in Osaka’s Minami Horie district is a testament to their innovative and thoughtful design approach. By balancing historical preservation and modern design, they have successfully redefined the spatial experience, setting a new standard for hair salons and commercial spaces alike.
The blend of abstracted minimalistic elements, a monochromatic palette punctuated by vibrant accents, and the sensitive incorporation of contemporary features highlights the potential for modern architecture to coexist harmoniously with history. Ultimately, the project is an invitation for patrons to experience the rich cultural heritage of Osaka within the context of a thoroughly modern and sophisticated environment.
Through their design prowess and commitment to preserving the past, SIDES CORE has transformed Cache Horie into more than just a hair salon; it is now a veritable celebration of Osaka’s architectural evolution, fusing its rich heritage with the unrelenting march of progress.
