The OFF-WHITE™ Fall/Winter 2025 collection, presented under the creative direction of Ib Kamara in Paris, is a remarkable tribute to Nigeria, Kamara’s home country. Christened “State of Resistance,” the collection masterfully integrates Nigerian cultural elements with OFF-WHITE™’s signature streetwear aesthetic, forging a powerful vision of unity and resilience.
Symbols such as eagles and stars, which carry dual meanings, are thoughtfully incorporated throughout the collection. While reminiscent of the United States, they also represent West African identity – the Nigerian national soccer team is nicknamed the “Super Eagles,” and the Ghanaian flag features a single star.
These symbols are prominently displayed on various garments like coats, ties, and fitted dresses, showcasing intricate embroidery and prints.
A subtle yet eye-catching detail in the collection is the deep ‘V’ cut on some scuba- and biker-inspired ensembles, paying homage to the late Virgil Abloh, the founder of OFF-WHITE™.
This nod to Abloh’s legacy infuses a sense of nostalgia and reverence into the designs. The concept of a uniform symbolizing a futuristic community facing challenges together forms the central theme of “State of Resistance.” Berets, a recurring accessory, draw inspiration from Virgil Abloh’s past creations and the Black Panthers, connecting to the history of Pan-African political resistance.
The collection also reintroduces OFF-WHITE’s iconic striped patterns in a new accessory dubbed the Sand Bag.
Texture and functionality are key components of the designs, with bouclé fabric combined with jersey in oversized ivory jackets and vibrant knitted pieces for men.
An emphasis on practicality is visible through small storage compartments added to shoes, pants, jackets, and messenger bags. The signature arrows of the OFF-WHITE™ logo appear on a denim-effect jersey look, pointing in multiple directions, while eagles and stars add a striking graphic touch.
Ib Kamara’s vision of unity and resilience permeates the entire collection, as he seamlessly blends Nigerian cultural influences with OFF-WHITE’s distinct streetwear style. The “State of Resistance” theme serves as a potent statement transcending fashion, highlighting the importance of community and perseverance in adversity.
